Study and Review
Introduction
These modules provide learners with the topics they need to study, alongside questions to help them check their knowledge and understanding.
Study and Review interface
When a learner first opens the Study and Review module, they see a summary of what they will study.
On the left is a teach panel which provides explanation text. This is automatically read aloud, but the audio can be paused at any point by clicking on the pause button. The audio controls are in the triple dots can change the speed of the audio or hide the text.
The arrow in the top right can be clicked to show a side panel which contains a history tab and a navigation tab.
The history tab shows a contents list of learning objectives, and what % of the content the learner has read and answered questions correctly.
The navigation tab shows all the content in the module. Learners can click on any of these learning objectives to go straight to that content in the module.
At the top of the screen, learners can see how far they have progressed through the module – this is based on how much of the content they have studies, and how many questions they have answered correctly and confidently.
Adaptive learning
The Study and Review modules are adaptive. This means that the content and questions automatically adjust to the learner’s needs in real time, based on how confident they rate themselves in your knowledge, as well as how quick and accurate they are when answering questions.
Before they start, learners think about how familiar they think they are with the topic, and adjust the self-assessment slider shown here.
- Novice means that they don’t feel confident about the topic, and the content is shown before the questions.
- Expert means they feel very confident in their knowledge about the topic. This means that they will start off by answering questions rather than seeing content. They will receive less help and if they know the topic well, and answer their questions correctly and confidently, they will move through the module more quickly.
Regardless of the setting, the module will adjust to the learner’s needs.
If they want to adjust the setting themselves at any time while they are working through the module, they can do so in the slider at the bottom left-hand side of the screen.
On the next slide, learners then click eBook icon that opens the relevant pages of the eBook on a separate window. Once they have read some content, they will be asked again to rate how confident they are in their knowledge and understanding of this content by clicking on the smiley faces at the bottom of the screen, to indicate if they have ‘Got it’, ‘Think you have got it’ or ‘Don’t get it. Their answer will determine how challenging the questions are that follow.
They also ask learners to rate how confident they are in their answers. This, combined with how quickly and accurately they answer the questions, will adjust how they see future content and questions. If they are not confident or not correct, they will see the question again in the future.
If they are not confident or get the answer wrong, they will see the correct answer and an explanation of why their answer was wrong, and by clicking ‘Learn more here’ they are directed to the pages of the eBook with the content that they need to study more in order to get that question right next time.
Once learners have answered enough questions correctly and confidently, they will complete the module.
The completion screen shows the time the learners took to complete the module, the time they spent on each item, how many items they already knew and were confident about, and how many items they learned. The table of contents allows them to navigate back to any of the content in the module that they want to look at again.
Exam Practice Questions
Introduction
The Exam Practice Questions module contains exam-style questions, some of which are supported by exam tips.
Learners can choose to write a response by typing their answer directly into the answer box, writing a response on paper, taking a photo of it, and then uploading it, or writing a response in another format and upload it as a file.
Once learners have finished writing or uploading their answer, they need to click NEXT to see a model answer. If they want to move onto the next question without comparing their answer to the model or self-assessing their answer, they can click on SAVE AND CLOSE AND NEXT.
On the next screen, they can compare their own response to the model answer.
Once they have submitted their self-assessment, their answer and assessment will be available for teachers to view via the [Feedback] area.
